Inredningshjälpen is one of Sweden's most popular interior design blogs. Here Anette writes about her two biggest passions: sustainable design and personalized interiors. Anette, who has her day-to-day life in Malmö, also has an apartment in the summer village of Torekov. In this newsletter, she tells us more about the renovation of her apartment and how carefully selected skirting boards and creative construction solutions gave it a new refreshed look.

"When we bought the apartment, it came with a new solid wooden floor, a new kitchen, and a furnished loft space on top of the apartment. However, we felt that it needed a new surface layer and skirting as the previous job was rather sloppy and didn’t fit the style, I wanted. In the end, we ended up redoing the window frames, window trims, radiator screen, tiled stove, built-in storage and a wall opening towards the hallway," says Anette.

Skirting boards are exposed to wear and tear on a daily basis, which is why Anette chose the MD360 model produced with a so-called special "Scratchshield technology". The skirting boards end up being incredibly solid and durable, and even sharp tools will have a hard time scratching them – something that even Anette's craftsmen noticed.
The new skirting boards are taller than the standard model, but they still have a classic and modern look so they don’t appear in a turn-of-the-century style. That wouldn’t particularly fit well with this apartment, as it has a relatively low ceiling e.g., sloping ceilings in the living room. For the actual installation, we hired a professional to help us. He said that he was surprised at how easy it was for him to work with the brand-new material polyforce, and that the joints remained homogeneous because the material was neither sensitive to heat nor cold.
Anette additionally chose to make modifications to the same skirting. This way, it could be used for the window trims and everything ended up matching perfectly.

The skirting boards actually become a beautiful detail throughout the entire apartment’s interior, and it creates a beautiful frame for the built-in wardrobe, which the craftsman made according to my instructions.

The skirting is also visible in the bedroom, where it meets the radiator screen and continues up towards the window, which also has a new solid wooden window frame.

Small details make all the difference. I’m extremely happy with the result and my husband, who is usually quite skeptical of all things new, is also impressed with the material and how well it turned out.
